It is with great sadness that the Northumbrian Piper’s Society have announced the death of piper, fiddler and pipe-making legend Colin Ross on Monday 27 May, in hospital after a short illness. Colin was an NTMF Life Member. The family have requested absolute privacy at this time.
Derrick of Two Left Feet played for us at the festival, and I will never forget him and Carol Anderson playing a duet – it was sublime. Derrick died in May ’19 after an long illness.
Mark was a long standing participant and supporter of our festival, latterly also a committee member, as well as being a well known and much loved local guy.
He was a super musician, much in demand to play with dance bands from all over Scotland, and notable to us for playing with Roger Dobson. He came originally from Muir of Ord, where he grew up in a musical family and played in competitions all over Scotland. He met Carol Dobson (daughter of Roger) at Mull Festival, and moved to Newcastleton.
He died unexpectedly at the end of 2015, and leaves a huge void, a Mark-shaped hole that everyone who knew him feels.
Sadly 2016 has seen the loss of a well known festival regular, Bob Burgess. Many, if they did not know him personally, will recall his performances on the washboard, and his enthusiastic support of the Copshaw Common Riding.
Steve was a long standing supporter of our festival, and a donator of one of our trophies! His sense of humour and willingness to help wherever he was needed made him one of the most welcome sights on a Friday as things got started. He has not been back for a few years, sadly life changes, but he remained interested and supportive regardless. He died in mid 2016.
